When you average that out, that's an investment of $3.8 million every day! We’re seeking a talented Legal Counsel to join our Legal and Governance team. Reporting to the Head of Legal and Governance, you’ll provide high-quality legal and governance services that support Watercare’s strategic objectives and compliance obligations. About the role As a key member of the legal team, you will: Provide legal and governance advice to senior Watercare staff, including the Executive and subject matter experts. Advise on legislative changes, coordinate and draft submissions, and support implementation across the business. Work on a variety of non-contentious and contentious matters. Review and approve board reports, policies, charters, and terms of reference for the Watercare Board and its committees. Attend and minute board and committee meetings. Assist with Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 requests and Ombudsman enquiries. Support governance obligations, including directors’ duties, Constitution and Charter responsibilities, and conflict management. Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to project work as allocated by the Head of Legal and Governance. Help foster a collaborative, positive culture and share best practices within the team and wider business. Ngā pūkenga e rapu nei mātou | About you In this role you will bring: 3+ years’ experience in a legal firm or in-house legal position after graduation. Large law firm experience (desirable) Experience in giving legal advice to stakeholders. In-house legal experience working in or with Central or Local Government (desirable) Strong attention to detail. High level of resilience. Ability to relate to a range of different people. Strong can-do attitude and ability to manage deadlines. Willingness to think broadly and take on new challenges.
