REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• At least 5-7 years of experience in private practice with a focus on the banking, financial services regulations, transactional work and/or similar in-house experience in a fintech / payments / financial services environment. Candidates with the UAE experience would be preferred.
• Legal degree from a reputable university with excellent academic results. Additional education / LL.M in Banking & Finance Law / Business Law / Commercial Law would be an advantage.
• Qualification as a solicitor of England and Wales / Australia / US is highly desirable but is not a pre-requisite.
• Solid understanding of the financial services regulations of the UAE financial freezones and mainland. Familiarity with the digital assets / cryptocurrency legal implications would be a plus.
• Excellent English language commination and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Russian or Arabic language would be an advantage.
• A fast-learner and a team-player who is also able to work independently and take ownership of their workstreams.

ROLE SUMMARY

As part of our continued growth and expansion, we are looking for a Legal Counsel with experience in fintech, payments and/or financial services sector to join our Dubai team.
The Legal Counsel will work in tandem with the Senior Legal Counsel, the Legal Department support personnel, the group’s Board of Directors and CEO on a variety of matters concerning the group’s regulated and operating companies in the UAE, US, India and Africa.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide general legal support to the group and ensure that the group companies comply with the applicable laws and regulations pertaining to currency exchange, cross-border remittances, payments, acquiring, e-money and wallet technology.
• Manage regulatory matters in the UAE related to the financial services licensing requirements, transaction structuring and legal advice for new products and features.
• Keep up to date on regulatory and policy developments related to fintech and financial services.
• Support the group with local and cross-border M&A transactions, corporate restructuring and private equity deals.
• Liaise with and coordinate external legal counsel across various jurisdictions.
• Monitor the group’s IP strategy and ensure that the group’s IP rights are adequately protected.
• Negotiate, draft, and implement various commercial agreements with local and foreign banks, financial institutions and vendors related to various financial services and products.
• Cultivate relationship with the group’s stakeholders and regulators.
