We are dedicated to solving complex legal questions, collaborating on go to market strategies including for new markets and verticals, navigating regulatory complexity, and developing creative solutions — all so that more customers across Asia can experience Workday, the definitive AI platform for the future of HR, Finance, and IT. Our current focus is on supporting high-complexity net new and customer base transactions, advising on nuanced legal issues, migrating customers onto new contract frameworks, and participating in strategic initiatives and projects to improve contracting efficiency across the region. We also serve as legal representatives on Workday leadership teams throughout the Asia-Pacific region (APAC), ensuring that our go-to-market approach is both commercially sound and locally compliant. What makes this team special is our supportive, collaborative culture — everyone is willing to help and learn from one another. You will be at the forefront of high-impact and complex negotiations, directly see how your work grows the business, celebrate wins and milestones together, and gain firsthand understanding of how transformative new agentic AI solutions are sold and used internally. If you are energized by building and exercising your legal expertise in diverse markets and cultures in Asia, this is the team for you. About the Role As a Legal Director on the GTM Legal (Asia) team, you will serve as a trusted legal advisor and an essential partner to sales leadership across the region. You will play a central role in enabling Workday's revenue growth in Asia by providing enterprise-level deal support where it is most needed, nurturing partnerships with sales leaders, and helping the organization meet its business growth objectives. In this role, you will be responsible for: Supporting Revenue Growth in Asia: Providing legal support (including on contracts, data privacy, software licensing and subscription, market entry, cybersecurity, ethics and integrity, and other corporate / commercial transactional issues) for both net new and customer base sales teams across both the private and public sector primarily in ASEAN (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Philippines), and secondarily across the rest of Asia, including Hong Kong & Taiwan, Korea and India. Providing Regional Expertise: Acting as LCCA's in-region country counsel and the regional regulatory resource. You will bridge the gap between global strategy and local nuances, identifying and addressing localized regulatory requirements before they escalate — especially in markets where you may be the only attorney in the region. Enabling Operational Excellence: Providing on-the-job and programmatic training to Sales to ensure they know how to work with Legal and manage objection-handling with panache. Partnering on Global Partner Programs: Collaborating with the Global Partners Organization to onboard new partners, manage legal enablement of resellers in your theatres, and provide regional input and perspective to shape global partner programs. Managing Outside Counsel: Managing outside counsel, including costs, budgeting, scope, responses, in relation to GTM transactions and issues and where relevant, litigation. About You Basic Qualifications 10-20 years of experience as a legal professional (at a law firm or in-house position), with substantial experience advising on complex commercial transactions in ASEAN. Experience in Hong Kong & Taiwan, Korea or India is a plus and strongly preferred. Qualified legal practitioner (admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in Asia-Pacific or a common law jurisdiction). Experience supporting technology or SaaS sales transactions, including enterprise-level deal negotiation and structuring. Other Qualifications Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence internal senior stakeholders and collaborate effectively across global and regional teams. Familiarity with the regulatory landscapes and cultural norms across Asia markets, with a particular understanding of data privacy, public sector procurement, and technology contracting regulations in the region. Meticulous attention to detail and ability to manage multiple transactions and projects simultaneously under deadline pressure. Proficiency in leveraging enterprise AI solutions to address dynamic workloads and legal needs. Critical Thinking: Skilled at analyzing complex legal and business information, evaluating its implications, drawing conclusions from facts, and making logical, well-considered decisions that support the organization's goals. You are able to identify and define problems, gather and evaluate information, and develop and assess effective solutions. Decision Making: Experienced in recommending the best courses of action from multiple alternatives based on a thorough evaluation of potential outcomes. You are comfortable with risk assessment, problem-solving, and balancing sound judgment with practical reasoning to guide the team and the business forward. Risk Analysis: Deep expertise in identifying, assessing, and managing legal and regulatory risks across multiple jurisdictions in Asia. You proactively develop strategies to mitigate organizational exposure and ensure compliance, especially in emerging or evolving regulatory environments. Business Acumen: Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret business situations to make sound decisions. You are adept at analyzing market trends, understanding the commercial landscape, and identifying opportunities that support growth and improvement across the region. Contract Negotiations: Experienced in leading and managing complex contract negotiations, including the ability to reach mutually beneficial agreements through constructive dialogue, understand and address the interests of all parties, and communicate value effectively to close deals. Our Approach to Flexible Work With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter. At Workday, we are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive hiring experience where all candidates can fully demonstrate their skills. If you require assistance or an accommodation at any point, please email accommodations@workday.com. Are you being referred to one of our roles?
