Description:
Do you love reading case law? We are looking for a diligent Legal Editor to join our team of experienced editors working on Westlaw and the Australian Digest.
We are a close, collaborative team with a strong work ethic and a passion for case law. We work hard and offer reasonable work hours and work-life balance in return.
To be successful in the role you will love reading case law. You’ll enjoy learning, be receptive to instruction and feedback and be comfortable asking for help. You will be a self-starter who can manage your own workload, while working collaboratively within a team environment. You will be able to work within our publishing conventions and priorities.
As a Legal Editor, you will have the opportunity to work with the latest AI tools to enhance your research and editing capabilities. This is a unique chance to combine your legal expertise with innovative technology to produce high-quality legal information.
- Creates and classifies legal information in the form of headnotes, historical notes, abstracts/synopses, headings, analysis, indexes, highlights, and other text.
- Reviews and edits legal information created by other employees, authors, freelancers and others.
- Identifies key legal issues in editorial materials.
- Adheres to editorial publishing schedules and quality standards.
- Consults with multiple departments regarding the business aspects of publications as required.
- Verifies own work and that of colleagues and external contributors as required for accuracy, completeness, and quality and ensures that the information is properly presented and organised.
- Maintains and develops legal knowledge and skills training as required to complete work and stay current on legal trends and developments related to the employee’s editorial responsibilities.
- Participates in the employee evaluation process (both wider feedback and self-evaluation)

About You:
- Hold an Australian Law degree
- Have post-qualification legal experience (desirable) – or similar experience
- Possess strong legal research skills and familiarity with Australian legal resources
- Ability to interpret, analyse, organise, and communicate complex legal material
- Strong attention to detail and understanding of its importance from a customer perspective
- Ability to adapt quickly and respond positively to change
- A commitment to both team and personal goals
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and work efficiently
- Editorial experience an advantage
