DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW

In this role, you would report directly to and be the deputy to the VP Legal - Category, Science and Commercial. You would be the lead lawyer for a global category or categories, and will lead the team of lawyers supporting the global categories within Perrigo.
The Legal Head of Category plays a crucial role that blends legal expertise with strategic vision. This role will be responsible for providing legal oversight and strategic guidance across a key product category or categories as well as setting up the Category Legal Team and Perrigo Category structure for success by implementing best practice One Perrigo frameworks for development and review of artwork, claims and promotional materials, as well as competitor and third party challenge strategies and frameworks.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Qualifications:

  • Education: Lawyer qualified in the US, UK or Europe.
  • Experience: Typically the experience required would be gained through 10+ years of professional legal experience with substantial experience in-house.
  • Experience in advertising, marketing, regulation and sale of self-care products, as well as experience drafting and advising on R&D and licensing contracts. Experience managing other individuals preferred.

Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of legal, regulatory & commercial processes, coupled with strong strategic thinking.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to analyze business issues and understand implications of legal decisions, providing pragmatic and proportionate advice.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, including well-developed interpersonal skills and strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and develop teams, and multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage senior executive relations and ability to collaborate and build relations with stakeholders across functional and organization lines, and enterprise-wide program development and management skills.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate legal advice into actionable business strategies.
Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will possess deep legal expertise, a strong understanding of optimal category legal support, and a passion for innovation in the health and wellness sector.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead legal support for a global category or categories, advising on:
  • path to market and regulatory advice relating to new and existing products
  • label development and product claims
  • product and promotional claims and substantiation
  • competitor and third-party challenge strategies and product defense plans
  • issues relating to the marketing and promotion of products across diverse existing and emerging media
  • the use of data and other information for the purposes of developing and marketing products
  • collaborating with the Global IP team regarding IP protection, defense and offense plans
  • category strategies and development of proprietary tools, data and insights and the protection thereof
  • category specific business opportunities, including development and licensing agreements
  • Leading other lawyers supporting the global categories
  • Establishing best practice frameworks for development and review of artwork, claims and promotional materials, as well as competitor and third-party challenge strategies and frameworks
