In addition to meeting the essential requirements, the successful candidate must strongly demonstrate the capability to:

  • Provide efficient and effective legal and/or litigation services to the Commissioner in accordance with legislation, policy, guidelines and practice standards.
  • Investigate complaints about lawyers, including obtaining relevant evidence.
  • Interpret and prepare complex legal documents including legal records, correspondence, legislation, policies, reports, submissions, briefing notes, wills, contracts and agreements including cost agreements.
  • Draft relevant Tribunal or Court process and / or evidence in matters arising from your investigations and instruct in those matters if appropriate.
  • Undertake administrative activities and research allocated within established standards, procedures, policies and delegations.
  • Undertake related correspondence, administrative activities and legal cases.
  • Interpret and comply with legislation, policies and practice standards.
  • Provide assistance in the development and implementation of legal reviews and/or law reform initiatives
Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE

The Office of the NSW Legal Services Commissioner (OLSC) is an independent statutory office that deals with complaints about lawyers.
The Legal and Investigation officer works as part of the OLSC Legal team and conducts investigations into allegations of misconduct on the part of lawyers in NSW. The role also provides professional legal and/or litigation advice, support, and research in the relevant area/s of law to contribute to efficient and effective legal services and support the complaint handling functions of the Legal Services Commissioner.
This is a hybrid workplace role, currently performed both from the OLSC office in the Sydney CBD, and from home, with ongoing remote work arrangements at the Department’s discretion.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE

  • Legal Qualifications, with post admission experience working as a lawyer.
  • Current unsupervised Australian practising certificate (or eligible to apply for one, having completed the required period of supervised legal practice)
  • National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
