Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role offers a unique opportunity to lead legal risk management across EnergyAustralia’s Trading, Transition, Operations, and Projects business units. With a strong emphasis on regulatory compliance, you will play a key role in navigating complex legal frameworks, ensuring the business meets its legal obligations while enabling innovation and strategic growth. This is a high-impact position for a commercially minded legal professional who thrives on partnering with the business to deliver clear, practical advice in a dynamic regulatory environment.

  • Provide leadership, coaching and menoting to a small high performing team which delivers all key applicable business plan measures
  • Legal contact for the relevant business units supporting regulatory matters across operations and projects and trading and transition business units
  • Provide deep expertise (particularly for complex scenarios) in the provision of compliance advice and the investigation and determination of compliance issues with internal business stakeholders.
  • Lead the single point of engagement with regulators on compliance related matters and ensuring effective and efficient management of compliance reporting and information provision across the Customer business unit.
  • Oversee compilation of regulatory information and data requests, prior to submission to regulators.
  • Provide senior thought leadership to drive a compliance culture, build awareness and compliance capability across the organisation.
  • Design and deliver training to business unit colleagues to build their knowledge and capability and reduce their reliance on Legal & Governance for lower risk or routine matters.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Degree in Law and a current practising certificate in Victoria
  • 8+years post qualification experience in a reputable Australian law firm or in-house
  • Experience in some of the following areas: drafting and giving advice on a range of commercial contracting matters, corporate acquisitions and divestments, corporate structuring, project financing, construction and procurement contracting, energy project development
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to influence independent of hierarchy
  • Ability to effectively manage change and negotiate the right outcomes for the business
  • Understanding of the Australian energy sector and regulatory environment relevant to asset operations, portfolio development and wholesale energy trading high advantagious
  • Experience providing legal advice on regulated energy markets in Australia or the power generation sector
