QUALIFICATIONS
We are targeting qualified lawyers in the 6-12 years PQE range, although would be willing to consider candidates with a different experience profile. Whilst candidates may not have experience in all of the areas covered within PWM Legal, candidates will need to demonstrate an understanding of certain of the areas described above.
- Candidates will need to demonstrate a strong grounding in structured lending and other financing transactions.
Knowledge of the regulatory framework and/or the product areas relevant to the PWM business.Candidates are expected to have relevant post-qualification experience either with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel.

ABOUT OUR ROLES IN PWM LEGAL
Private Wealth Management (PWM) is part of the Asset and Wealth Management Division of Goldman Sachs. PWM provides a comprehensive range of investment services, including discretionary investment management, investment advice, brokerage services and lending, to wealthy individuals and families worldwide, across a diversified range of asset classes, including equities, fixed income, structured products, derivatives, hedge funds and other alternative investments. PWM in Asia focuses primarily on individuals, families and family offices based in the Asia Pacific region, who invest through a wide variety of investment vehicles including corporates, trusts, partnerships, regulated and unregulated funds, in a broad range of jurisdictions. Currently, PWM in Asia Pacific is supported by two lawyers in Hong Kong, one in Singapore and one in Shanghai, who work closely with colleagues in PWM Legal in the US and Europe.
We are looking for a candidate with lending and finance experience to support the growth in the Asia Pacific of the Private Lending and Deposits business within PWM. The Private Lending and Deposits business offers both conventional and highly customised loans to meet a wide range of financial objectives, including real estate, private equity investments, private assets and more.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, proactive and robust candidate who is interested in a broad, dynamic, challenging and rewarding role. The role requires the ability to work independently from day one and to manage a diverse and complex workload meeting tight deadlines. Lawyers in our team work closely with a diverse group of clients across the PWM business and thrive on being the trusted advisors to a dynamic and constantly evolving business.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will primarily be supporting the Private Lending and Deposits business within PWM, with a focus on providing legal and structuring advice and transaction management, including:
Advising the PWM Private Lending business on a broad range of loan transactions, including securities and asset-based lending, mortgages and real estate loans and other structured loan transactions secured over a range of different collateral types across jurisdictions in the Asia Pacific.Advising on the structuring and execution of transactions, assessing legal and reputational risks, managing diligence processes, analysing diligence issues that are identified to develop remediations for them, reviewing and negotiating documents, coordinating with outside counsel and resolving issues that arise during the course of a transaction.
The candidate will also be supporting the broader PWM business in the Asia Pacific as follows:
- Advising Private Wealth Advisors on all aspects of the client relationship, from pitches through to the structuring of bespoke solutions, negotiation of client documentation, and support on transaction-specific issues.
- Advising PWM Management on a variety of strategic growth initiatives, including new business opportunities in the Asia Pacific , client-specific issues, litigation and issues relating to risk management and governance.
- Advising on the current regulatory regime in Australia and other jurisdictions in Asia Pacific, as well as the analysis and implementation of new regulations impacting PWM products and services.
- Advising PWM product specialists on all aspects of product structuring and development, documentation and trading, including fixed income securities, mutual and alternative funds, structured products, and derivatives.
- Working closely with other functions such as Compliance, Risk, Operations and Engineering on a wide range of issues affecting the PWM platform, such as interpretation of regulations, and the implementation of new technology solutions.
Liaising with other lawyers in the Goldman Sachs Legal Division globally in relation to specific products and regulatory issues, including derivatives, equity and debt capital markets, employment, data privacy and litigation.Liaising with outside counsel on a broad range of domestic and cross border jurisdictional issues, including licensing and selling restrictions, and enforceability of collateral and netting arrangements.
