JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled Legal Proposal Writer to join our law firm’s business development team. The ideal candidate will combine legal knowledge with exceptional writing skills to create compelling proposals and pitches that showcase our firm’s expertise and win new business. The candidate must be a strong writer with a focus on attention to detail and excellent communication and organization skills. The Proposal Writer will lead and manage the development of written proposals through researching, writing, and submitting compelling, crisply written proposals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in English, journalism, communications, humanities, liberal arts, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience (such as writing proposals or grants).
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Agility and speed in executing strong writing with a quasi-journalistic ability to quickly grasp specialist knowledge and make it clear.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to summarize complex concepts in documents for executive audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to professionally communicate with a wide variety of individuals and respond to inquiries in a timely, professional manner.
  • Ability to multitask, adapt to shifting priorities, problem-solve, proactively address issues, and act with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong executive presence.
  • Ability to conduct research.
  • Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with ability to learn new technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams, Smartsheet, and InterAction preferred.
  • Experience with proposal data platforms (e.g., Foundation, QorusDocs) preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Thoroughly review and analyze each request and determine the value proposition and opportunity.
  • Properly vet opportunities based on firm guidelines and assessment requirements.
  • Provide coaching and strategic guidance when necessary.
  • Facilitate the proposal process from intake to submission.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and subject matter experts to pose questions and draw out essential messaging.
  • Demonstrate a finely tuned ability to listen to business development strategy discussions and extract significant information and action items.
  • Work cross-functionally with business development team members and related business professional teams (LPM, practice innovation, practice management, etc.) to build creative, innovative material.
  • Capture, shape and synthesize information to reflect a cohesive message, written in one voice.
  • Bring one-voice consistency to documents pieced together by multiple authors while preserving the business pursuit strategy and messaging.
  • Write executive summaries and business development materials that articulate strategic messaging in a compelling, persuasive manner, consistent with firm branding.
  • Translate spoken or written legal information and business jargon into clear, consistent, grammatically correct content.
  • Ensure consistency, clarity, and adherence to voice and style guidelines.
  • Proofread and ensure high-quality and consistent work product.
  • Prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Maintain and update a proposal content library for efficient future use.
  • Track all proposals and KPI’s related to win/loss rate.
  • Analyze proposal data/opportunities and provide strategic recommendations.
