Responsibilities

THE ROLE

We are currently seeking a dynamic and highly organised legal secretary to become an integral part of our Canberra Team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work across a range of commercial practice areas within our firm, providing essential support to our legal professionals. As a legal secretary, you will be responsible for managing a variety of tasks, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our legal processes. Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Liaising with clients and staff
  • Diary management and travel booking
  • Preparation of legal documents
  • Preparation of correspondence (emails, memos and letters)
  • Monthly billing
  • Managing all electronic documentation
  • Completing finance related documents including trust accounting
  • Other office tasks as required (reception cover, stationery ordering, court filing)

REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE

The successful candidate for this role will have:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills across the Microsoft suite, in particular Word and Powerpoint and a working knowledge of Excel
  • Experience using document management and billing/time recording systems (such as FileSite, Expert or similar)
  • The ability to manage the workflow of multiple fee earners
  • Flexibility and be adaptable, proactive and be able to work unsupervised
  • A positive attitude and team player approach, no matter what the task
  • Strong organizational and file management skills and initiative
