LEGAL SECRETARY

Location: Wythenshawe, Manchester
Salary: £26,000 – £28,000 per annum (DOE)
Hours: 8:30am – 5:30pm (Monday–Thursday), 8:30am – 5:00pm (Friday)
About the Role
On behalf of our client, Coppersmith Recruitment is seeking experienced administrators to join a busy and professional legal practice. Candidates should ideally have at least two years of administration experience, with a background in legal or medical environments being particularly advantageous.
Following comprehensive training, you will join a pool of Legal Secretaries supporting multiple fee earners. This is a varied and dynamic role, involving not only typing and file management but also preparing bundles, liaising with clients, and coordinating meetings and conferences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a pool of legal secretaries, supporting multiple lawyers.
  • Provide assistance within one area of work, such as Road Traffic Accidents, Employers’ Liability, or Occupiers’ & Public Liability.
  • Prepare correspondence and legal documents, including pleadings and court bundles.
  • Photocopy and scan documents, with support from the Administration team where necessary.
  • Handle inbound and outbound calls to clients and third parties in a professional manner.
  • Arrange appointments, meetings, and conferences, liaising with lawyers, clients, Counsel, and other stakeholders.
  • Support other secretaries and the wider administration team when required.
  • Assist with updating the Proclaim case management system.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years’ administration experience (legal or medical background advantageous).
  • Strong written English skills, with excellent spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Confident IT literacy and experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, including a professional and friendly telephone manner.
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience with Proclaim case management system desirable.
  • Proficient word processing and audio typing skills.
  • Audio typing speed of 65+ wpm (experience with digital dictation systems such as BigHand advantageous).
