Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Legal Translator to join our growing team!
An integral part of the Corporate Communications department, the Translation team ensures that the tone, voice and values of Intact Financial Corporation are accurately reflected in translations across the organization, in both English and French.
As a Legal Translator, your primary role will be to support the Specialty Solutions department by translating insurance wordings, endorsements and underwriting guidelines from English to French. You will also translate and revise other internal and external communications for that group, including notices to insureds, broker communications and marketing material, and provide language consulting services to business partners to ensure the quality and consistency of the company’s communications in your field of expertise. There will be opportunities to work on translations for a variety of other areas of the company.

What you’ll do here:

  • Translate insurance wordings as well as internal and external communications for the Specialty Solutions department. Translate documents for other areas of the company as needed.
  • Revise translations done by team members and, if needed, those done by external providers.
  • Provide language consulting services in your field of expertise to internal and external business partners and perform terminological research as needed.
  • Provide high-quality service and meet deadlines.
  • Contribute to translation memory and terminology databases.

What you bring to the table:

  • B.A. with specialization in Translation or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • College or university degree or recognized training in the legal field.
  • At least five years of experience as a translator, including at least three years of experience translating legal documents.
  • Experience in the financial or insurance sector would be a strong asset.
  • Member of the Barreau, an asset.
  • Member of OTTIAQ, ATIO or any other recognized association, an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Complete fluency in French and English, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge of translation memory and terminology management software (MultiTrans Trados Studio, etc.), an asset.
  • Highly organized and proactive individual; self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Customer focus and attention to quality and detail.
  • For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country.
  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
