Legislative Aide Maine State Legislature The Maine Legislature seeks a hardworking individual for the role of part-time legislative aide. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and writer, be adept at balancing and organizing multiple priorities, and will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. This position supports and enhances the work of a non-party Senator as he carry out his duty to serve his constituents. The Legislative Aide serves this member through constituent services, communications, and legislative work. Job Summary: This mid-level professional performs constituent casework, routine research, and press and public relations functions. The position requires basic familiarity with the legislative process, the functions of state government, and policy interests of the Senator and the Senator’s district. The Legislative Aide is supervised by the Senator who may review their work for accuracy, completeness, content, timeliness. Duties and Responsibilities: ●Assists constituents of the Senator in dealing with state agencies, quasi-governmental entities, and other organizations as appropriate in obtaining services or resolving problems either in person, by phone or email and in consultation with the senator. ●Drafts and review opinion columns, press releases, legislative testimony, biweekly email newsletter, and more. ●Helps research, write, and edit an annual newsletter. ●Helps organize in-district and other meetings. ●Tracks Senator’s legislation through the entire legislative process; monitors committee hearings or floor debates and reports legislative action or developments. ●Assist Senator with email, other correspondence, and legislative business. Preferred Qualifications: ●Bachelor’s degree or other equivalent combination of education and experience. ●Ability to communicate, coordinate and work effectively with the public, members of the legislature, legislative staff and executive branch. ●Excellent written and oral communication skills; experience in communications, journalism, and/or traditional or social media. ●Research and computer skills experience. ●Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and under pressure. ●Demonstrated interest in politics and/or state government. ●Familiarity with Maine and its regions. Position Details: This is a part-time position of up to 40 hours per month or 10 hours per week. Employees in this category are not eligible for state benefits. The position begins on December 1, 2025 and ends December 1, 2026.
