Job Title: Legislative Report Specialist (Part-Time)
Location: Remote
Schedule: Tuesday–Thursday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (24 hours/week)
Compensation: $18-23 per hour depending on experience; Overtime pay when legislative session runs past 5pm.
Duration: September 1, 2025 – July 1, 2026 (with potential for annual renewal)
Reports To: Emily Michienzi, MIRS Business Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and tech-savvy Legislative Report Specialist to support our team during legislative session. This part-time role is ideal for someone with strong administrative skills, a knack for digital tools, an interest in legislative processes, and the desire or need to have the summer off. You’ll monitor live sessions, transcribe committee hearings, manage content for blogs and social media, and assist with data and CRM tasks, all remotely.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written communication and editing abilities.
  • Able to listen and process information quickly.
  • Comfortable using digital tools or willing to learn (e.g., Sonix.ai, CRM platforms, blogging tools).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Interest in legislative processes or public policy is a plus.
  • No specific degree required; relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor Michigan House of Representatives floor sessions and committee hearings via a video livestream; track bill progress and session status.
  • Transcribe committee hearings using Sonix.ai and edit transcripts to include speaker names.
  • Respond to inquiries via live chat during session hours.
  • Assist with data collection for directories and election guides (depending on the year).
  • Maintain the “Quote of the Day” spreadsheet.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
