Description:
The Student Services department’s role in student success is to create a culture and environment that unleashes the full potential of all the students at SAIT. The Opportunity
The Reg Erhardt Library facilitates excellence in teaching, research, and learning by providing authoritative information resources and community-driven programs. By providing equitable access to print and digital collections, innovative technology, and learner-focused spaces, the Library creates an inclusive environment that supports creative inquiry at SAIT.
This position, reporting to the Library Manager, will support the Library’s ongoing assessment activities, including working with data to identify and communicate the impact of the library, and contribute to service improvement and development. The successful candidate will also participate in instructional and liaison activities, provide reference and research services, and work collaboratively on other projects as required.
The Role
Assessment activities - 30%
Provide support for the Library’s ongoing assessment initiatives and activities. Specific responsibilities include:
Collect, analyze, visualize, and interpret library data derived from public and virtual services, collections, and assessment instruments.
Assist in the development of actionable improvement/enhancement plans that are based upon the collected and available data.
Identify ways to measure and communicate the effectiveness, contribution, and value of Library services.
Maintain expertise in assessment methods, technologies and best practices through ongoing professional development.
Library Instruction - 30%
Provide instruction for the Library’s information literacy instruction program. The incumbent is responsible for providing high quality instruction and training to SAIT students and staff by:
Staying abreast of current trends and best practices in the areas of information literacy and andragogy.
Developing and presenting instructional classes to on-campus and online students.
Assisting in planning and developing the library instruction program.
Participating in development of materials (print and electronic) to support instructional activities.
Collaborating with faculty to develop resource-based learning activities.
Faculty Liaison - 20%
Build strong relationships with faculty and staff in a designated liaison area to identify needs and increase awareness and use of the Library. Specific responsibilities include:
Initiate and facilitate ongoing communication with faculty, to share information about relevant new Library resources or services and to stay abreast of program changes that will impact resource needs.
Oversee the creation and updating of relevant web-based subject guides.
Assist faculty and staff with requests for new resources and pass requests and suggestions on to the Selection team.
Identify new opportunities to engage with liaison areas.
Other Duties - 20%
Provide research support.
Contribute to special projects.
Engage in professional development opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or Information Studies from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited university.
One (1) year cumulatively of professional experience working in libraries or a related area.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Familiarity with Information Literacy theory, practice and assessment.
Proficiency in the use of general and subject-specific print and electronic reference resources.
Proficiency with technology, integrated library systems, mobile devices, apps, web development tools, and e-resources (e.g. Libguides, Learning management systems, eBooks).
Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to serve as a professional ambassador of the library by maintaining a professional image and demonstrating exceptional public-speaking skills.
Commitment to engaging with customer feedback and continuously improving services.
Capacity to thrive in an environment of change and respond effectively to shifting needs and priorities.
PREFERRED:
Experience or education in data analytics, business intelligence, databases, or similar fields would be considered an asset.
Experience planning and delivering instruction, especially information literacy and research skill specific instruction.
Interest in and experience with data analytics and data visualization.
Familiarity with academic library issues and trends, especially those related to library assessment.
Knowledge of online information resources and systems.
