Job Details Level: Entry Salary Range: Undisclosed Description This position organizationally falls under the Library Director of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma. Operational hours are Monday through Friday; 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M, or as may be needed. The purpose of this position is to perform technical and clerical duties in support of library operations and activities including staffing the circulation desk, providing assistance to patrons, explaining policies and procedures, providing general information on library services, ensuring safety and security of patrons, materials, and facility, training volunteers, and performing a variety of tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Essential Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities Tasks are as follows, but not limited to: Assist patrons at circulation desk in-person and via telephone; verify eligibility and complete registration records, update registration information, check out and renew materials, collect fines and fees, explain and enforce policies and procedures, provide information about circulation, library services and operations; answer patron questions, problem solve issues. Process returned materials; check in and sort materials returned to circulation desk, to outside drops, and via courier deliveries, shelve returned materials according to library guidelines, handle materials returned with missing pieces or damage. Operate a variety of types of library equipment; operate and troubleshoot equipment including telephone system, computers, printers, copier, cash register, self-check computers, and security gates, instruct patrons in use of library equipment. Perform tasks related to day-to-day operations of the library: open and close library building, monitor patron use of equipment, materials, and facility, respond to safety and security issues. Maintain library collection; reconcile database clean-up reports, shelf-read materials, organize and shift collections, repair and mend materials, withdraw discarded materials, display and promote materials. Process incoming and outgoing hold requests; reconcile daily hold and unclaimed reports. Perform general clerical duties; answer incoming calls, process incoming and outgoing mail, create a variety of documents, schedules, forms, and correspondence, prepare and reconcile reports, maintain files, and records. Act as a person-in-charge and lead worker as assigned; oversee opening and closing of library including cash register, assist with patron issues and complaints, troubleshoot facility and equipment problems, respond to emergency situations. Perform duties in one or more of the following assigned areas: services and operations, answer patron questions, problem solve issues. The incumbent must be flexible in order to undertake a variety of miscellaneous duties as assigned by the supervisor or team leader. Qualifications Minimum Mandatory Qualifications Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED 3+ year’s experience working in a library environment Additional Qualifications and Abilities: Ability to do the work of the position with or without direct supervision Must be able to read and write Must have excellent communication skills both verbally and written Perform library circulation and clerical tasks Correctly file items alphabetically and numerically Complete work accurately with attention to detail Make independent decisions based on common sense and good judgment Operate and troubleshoot a variety of office equipment including computers and associated word processing applications, printers, copiers, etc. Type a speed necessary for successful job performance Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work Display teamwork and cooperation with co-workers and supervisor Position Qualification Preferences Experience in tribal library services
