Job Title: Library Circulation Desk Student Worker Classification: Student Employee (non-exempt) Name and Address of Employer: St. Olaf College, 1520 St. Olaf Ave, Northfield, MN 55057 Department Name: St. Olaf Libraries Access Services Unit Number (5 digits): 14001 Length of Position: See Employment Authorization Contact Person/Supervisor: Student Employment and Operations Associate Wage Range: $11.75-12.75 Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): To assist library staff with routine, daily library activity, providing front-line assistance to library patrons. Transferable Skills: Customer service Use of library management system Knowledge of Library of Congress numbering system Duties and Responsibilities: Provide frontline patron assistance to answer questions and to identify, locate, check out and return library items Ability to work at either library following proper training, while potentially specializing in one location Provide information about library policy Use a centralized library management system, and organize and re-shelve returned library materials using the Library of Congress numbering system Responsible for escalating more complex issues to library staff for resolution Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills) Must demonstrate good communication skills Must have a friendly, service-oriented demeanor Strong initiative and reliability Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work well independently and as part of a team Physical ability to stand for up to 3 hours; bend, lift up to 25 pounds; push a loaded book cart or sift shelves of books and to read book labels with small font Must have a work award and be available to work at least 5 hours a week This job description is for general information purposes.
