POSITION TITLE: Library Media Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS: State teaching certificate in area of instructional responsibility
JOB GOAL: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible members of society and to provide for student and teacher utilization of a comprehensive program of library media skills and services.
REPORTS TO: Principal

Responsibilities
  • Determines individual, class, and school needs.
  • Supervises students in educational settings.
  • Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for library media management.
  • Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
  • Organizes media and equipment to provide accessibility for users.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Exhibits positive human relations skills.
  • Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Maintains and submits records and reports.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
  • Maintains proper certification by attending college, workshop and professional development courses.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and ethics, working cooperatively with the Board, the Superintendent, administrators, certificated and non-certificated personnel, parents, and students.
  • Attends all faculty meetings, PTA meetings, and other meetings as required by the Superintendent.
  • Performs co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and other school related duties (hall, lunchroom, playground, drop-off and pick-up, bus, etc.) as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
