City of Virginia Beach Library’s is seeking a full time Library Program Specialist I the Adult Track. Library Program Specialist I (FT) - Adult Track duties include but not limited to:

  • Plans, markets, presents, and evaluates specialized and complex programs and classes that reflect the library’s strategic initiatives and increase public awareness of library services and resources. Participates in systemwide programming in the adult track.
  • Works with community partners to ensure programming, resources, and materials to support lifelong learning.
  • Collects and inputs data that will measure the impact of services.
  • Aligns all services with library policies and procedures and consistently meets the needs of the community.
  • Interprets, explains, and applies library policies and procedures to customers and staff.
  • Facilitates library customers’ requests for information. Conducts reference interviews to clarify information needs of customers.
  • Develops appropriate search strategies and identifies appropriate resources to respond to customer requests.
  • Instructs customers in the use of the library catalog, electronic resources, library materials, and equipment.
  • Assists customers with operating and troubleshooting library hardware, software, peripherals, and personal digital devices.
  • Plans and prepares exhibits and displays and participates in outreach that increase community awareness of library services and resources.
  • Processes holds and provides information to customers about their circulation records and material requests to meet borrowing needs. Searches and updates circulation system.
  • Check materials in and out and registers customers to maintain an accurate database. Performs cash handling duties.
  • Maintains an ongoing knowledge of reading trends.

E Evaluates the accuracy and condition of items in the collection and make recommendations for the purchase of materials.

  • Participates in or leads departmental strategic teams to develop system policies and procedures as well as programming and provides training to orient them to their tasks and responsibilities

Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs.
