RCC is seeking applicants for a part-time Library Assistant-Youth Services & Outreach position. This position works 29 hours/week at our Warsaw campus. The anticipated hiring range is $19.00 - $21.00 per hour without benefits, commensurate with experience.
Reporting to the Circulation Manager, this position serves as the library’s representative in the community and promotes support for the library. The Library Assistant-Youth Services & Outreach serves the Learning Resources Center primarily for outreach and programming for college and public library events. The incumbent also acts as the Richmond County Public Library (RCPL) youth services specialist (children and young adult) and provides outreach and programming for all ages and demographics within the community. This position also provides library marketing to young patrons and their families and helps maintain RCPL’s social media.
The Library Assistant-Youth Services & Outreach plans, organizes, coordinates, promotes and delivers high-quality library programs for children, young adults, adults, senior citizens, community members with diverse needs, and RCC students on both campuses. This includes coordinating the Summer Reading Program, which involves planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, contacting presenters, and all else necessary to make the program successful, and National Library Week, National Children’s Book Week, and any other annual events that bring the patrons into the library. The incumbent also provides basic reference services at the Library Service Desk to students, faculty, the college, and the public community, and utilizes the Integrated Library System – Alma (ILS) to perform circulation duties, including patron processing, discharging library materials, processing bad debt, and other duties as assigned by the Circulation Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Specific experience working with children.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience using a variety of computer applications and software. Ability and eagerness to learn new technologies associated with learning resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with a diverse population of children, students, parents, faculty, administrators, and community patrons.
  • Ability to successfully plan, organize and implement events and programs.
  • Ability to perform duties accurately with attention to detail, and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • The incumbent must be able to work Saturdays in rotation.
