  • Be authorized to work in Canada
  • Hold a valid Manitoba security license
  • First aid certification an asset
  • Maintains a positive attitude and professional appearance.
  • Ability to stand and walk entire shift
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • First Aid training ( An Asset)

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate access to restricted areas for authorized persons and control access to the library entrance, including operating metal detection gates and welcoming visitors.
  • React quickly to threats, incidents, and emergencies, maintaining professionalism during stressful situations.
  • Monitor and ensure the proper functioning of alarms and closed-circuit cameras, and respond to alarms with on-site checks.
  • Conduct excessive foot patrols of interior and exterior sensitive areas to spot any suspicious activity and provide a visible security presence on all library and Skywalk floors.
  • Remove unauthorized individuals while applying conflict de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed safety approaches with a focus on anti-racism and cultural awareness.
  • Respond to tenant requests and offer site information and directions to the public with a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Collaborate effectively with law enforcement during serious incidents, as well as with library staff, Community Safety Hosts, and Crisis Workers to create a safe environment.
  • Maintain effective written and verbal communication, with fluency in English to ensure clear, calm interactions with the public and team members.
  • Follow opening and closing procedures, including locking/unlocking doors, elevators, rooms, and activating/deactivating alarm systems.
  • Document incidents and actions taken, and maintain detailed logs of unusual occurrences for accountability and reference.
