Description

As part of the library team, you will be one of two shippers working to coordinate the delivery and receive all incoming and outgoing goods and materials. The position shares responsibility for providing access to the Shipping area for vehicles, persons, and incoming and outgoing deliveries necessary for the Library’s operation and for ensuring their distribution as required. As part of the staffing in the Circulation Services section, the Shippers perform a regular rotation at the public service desk.

As the Shipper/Circulation Assistant, you will:

  • Receive and coordinate deliveries of goods and materials and routes to appropriate areas.
  • Manage workflow in the Shipping area and provide direction to external service providers on a daily basis.
  • Sort the materials received and forward items to all Branches of the Division in a correct and timely manner.
  • Suggest route and delivery changes as required.
  • Provide direction and training to junior personnel and trains back-up shipping staff as required.
  • Pick up daily mail from Sections at Millennium Library.
  • Box outgoing parcels on a daily basis.
  • Move furniture, equipment, and materials as required.
  • Maintain Shipping statistics as required.
  • Assist City of Winnipeg movers as required.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Provide public service at the Circulation desk.
  • Perform opening and closing duties of the Circulation desk.
  • Assess, collect, and record fines and fees for patron records.
  • Maintain equipment needed for the work of the section.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy work area.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the classification as assigned.

YOUR EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • High school graduation or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Successful completion of a Library Technician program an asset.
  • Previous work with the public an asset.
  • Ability to deal with the public and provide assistance in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to work with other staff as part of a team and with a variety of external service providers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate library equipment.
  • Keyboarding skills an asset.
  • Ability to handle cash accurately. 11. Physically capable of performing the duties of the position including heavy lifting.
