POSITION SUMMARY

One temporary hourly-intermittent student assistant position available in the University Library’s Special Collections & University Archives Department.

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate students must be registered/enrolled in a minimum of six (6) Fall/Spring units.
  • Must have received and accepted Financial Aid award for the current semester/year in which you are applying.
Responsibilities

This position offers hands-on experience working with rare and historical materials, assisting with the preservation, organization, and accessibility of the library’s unique collections. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, a respect for handling delicate materials, and an interest in archives, history, or library science.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Interest in learning about Special Collections & University Archives (SCUA) policies and procedures, and the ability to communicate SCUA services to patrons.
  • Photocopy and digitally scan materials for reference queries as needed.
  • Shelve materials requiring special handling.
  • Follow SCUA policies and procedures to assist with collection processing, access, and preservation tasks.
  • Perform individual projects that can include data entry and use of Microsoft Office software such as Excel and Word.
  • Assist with digitization projects, including operating scanners, careful handling of original materials, and checking integrity of digital scans.
  • Some outreach tabling activities may be requested on occasion.
  • Other duties as assigned.
