JOB SUMMARY

The Library Technician provides front line service and support to students, faculty, staff,
and the general public, both in person and at a distance. The library technician
undertakes assigned specialized duties that support a wide variety of library services
and functions.
The Library Technician promotes a welcoming, accessible, inclusive, and safe learning
environment for library users. The technician performs a comprehensive range of library
circulation duties using the integrated library system (ILS) and the university student
records system, while following procedures and enforcing library policies. The
technician provides effective customer service, assisting users in clarifying and
interpreting their information needs, and recommending appropriate materials and
sources.
Each library technician will specialize in one or more of the following areas: curating and
creating collections, course reserves, Interlibrary Loans (ILLs), Special Collections and
Archives, Digitization, teaching and learning, marketing and public relations, web
presence and assessment and any emerging library trends.
The technician brings team-building skills, a collaborative leadership style, and
interpersonal skills to public services.
This is a temporary contract position running from October 2025 - May 31, 2026.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two (2) year Library Technician Diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Two (2) years of related library experience.
  • Proficiency with integrated library system software and MS Office programs including Outlook, Word and Excel is required.
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn other software such as library experience platforms, digitization software, web content management systems, graphic design, university records system, and social media platforms and dashboards is an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
  • Ability to deal sensitively, effectively and professionally with students, staff, faculty and other professional groups as well as the public.
  • Highly resourceful and organized. Ability to work with a minimum of direct supervision, to establish priorities, achieve deadlines, solve problems, and work well under pressure.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to deal with changing priorities, frequent

interruptions and diverse personalities.

  • Physical fitness sufficient for moderate physical exertion including pushing, pulling, and

lifting library materials up to 40-50 pounds.

  • Physical conditions of the job include extended periods of sitting and/or standing and

computer screen use.
