This is a full-time & exempt position reporting to the OSP Program Manager. San Diego Youth Services: Who we are San Diego Youth Services has helped improve the lives of more than 840,000 homeless, runaway and vulnerable youth since its beginning in 1970. We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing to more than 28,000 youth every year at 100+ community and school locations. Through prevention, early intervention and treatment, we also help youth before they need higher levels of care or become homeless. We aim to: Meet the basic needs of youth. Hunger, poverty and youth homelessness are on the rise for many youth and their families today. We help meet these basic needs for youth. What could be more vital than food and shelter? San Diego Youth Services has long provided foster homes and adoption support services for families considering adopting a youth in the foster care system. Help youth develop life skills. In addition to a range of safe and stable housing options, we offer support to help youth develop the independent living skills necessary to become self-sufficient and keep off the streets. Promote overall health and well-being. Early intervention and care for the whole child are critical. We provide a broad continuum of services to help youth overcome trauma and challenges that put them at risk, including case management, counseling, mental health treatment and educational support and resources. SDYS has a staff of approximately 250 employees and 80 volunteers working across San Diego County and an annual budget of approximately $24 million. You can learn more about us at www.sdyouthservices.org PROGRAM DESCRIPTION Our Safe Place uses a whole person philosophy and provides safe and affirming spaces of healing through authentic connections, resources for equitable opportunity and avenues for cultivating strengths. Our Safe Place is a collaborative program with South Bay Community Services and the YMCA of San Diego County, with each partner providing a drop-in center and San Diego Youth Services also providing a mental health clinic. CONTEXT OF THE POSITION Provide trauma-informed assessment, treatment planning, service coordination for LGBTQ+ youth and their caregivers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The development, implementation, and evaluation of an integrated treatment approach for youth with co-occurring psychiatric and substance disorders and quality trauma informed youth programs that adhere to and uphold the rigorous standards of San Diego Youth Services as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding principles and standards of quality. Provide direct services such as: in-depth assessments for potential mental health and/or substance abuse issues, domestic/community violence, physical/sexual/emotional abuse, and physical health needs. Outreach and education to community gatekeepers, teachers, health care providers and families. Provide individual/group/family therapy; co-occurring disorders treatment; crisis intervention, service/discharge planning; and case-management services. Facilitate family psycho educational groups. Consult and care coordination with integrated primary care, mental health and substance abuse treatment. Maintain minimal productivity standards. Participate in planning, attending, and attend agency and county trainings, treatment team meetings and committees. Maintain Uniform Medical Record documentation and reporting and billing logs on all youth. Provide services in-home, at Drop-in Centers, and in the community as needed. This position requires travel to throughout the County and be willing to be available during some evening hours, weekends and holidays. Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of service-partner protected health information and other applicable information and material in accordance to agency and center policies, and applicable regulations and laws, including HIPAA. In conjunction with Director of Services and Program Director, update and maintain police and procedure manual. Coordinate and conduct Program Advisory Groups (PAGs) to find strategies to reduce the stigma of seeking mental health care and improve program service delivery for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults. Work with community and collaborative partners to determine the needs of families and provide culturally competent services and referrals. Participate in needs assessment surveys as appropriate. Welcome and support volunteers in the organization and assist them in accomplishing their services whenever applicable. Data collection and contract compliance of records as required include conducting peer chart reviews. Assist with Community trainings around LGBTQ+ topics. Respond to service-partners during a crisis or urgent matter, including those that occur outside of normal business operating hours, by implementing and following the on-call procedures whenever the rotation of on-call falls into the scope of responsibilities for the assigned period. Perform other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must have ability to bend at the waist, kneel or crouch to assist students. Must be able to communicate clearly; verbally, visually, or through other effective methods, to exchange information and deliver presentations. Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds-lifting books, materials and equipment to execute lessons and presentations. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Ability to traverse and move within and between campus locations as needed to perform essential job duties. Potential exposure to physical injury from aggressive behavior. PREFERRED EDUCATION, YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Associate license or license in marriage and family therapy or social work, and currently registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences. Preferred: Lived experience as a member of/self identifies in the LGBTQ+ community; Bilingual Minimum of two years’ experience working with youth under the direct supervision of a licensed clinician and two years’ experience working with cross disciplinary teams. Experience working with LGBTQ+ youth and young adults. Knowledge of co-occurring disorders treatment is also required. Must be able to pass clearance for working with Minors including drug test, TB test, and background check. Must have good driving record and willing to use own, properly insured vehicle for the job. Knowledge of the LGBTQ+ youth population in San Diego and committed to cultural awareness. Must be willing to develop or possess working knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment; experience working in trauma-informed and dual diagnosis programs preferred. Must be able to follow all the guidelines provided by the agency, government and health authorities to maintain safety and health when the job requires physical presence and/or contact with others during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the submission of proof of vaccination as mandated by the California Public Health Order.
