JOB DESCRIPTION

Prevail Paralegal Services Professional Corporation is seeking a motivated Licensed Paralegal and Notary Public to join our team!
You will provide frontline service to clients, manage legal files, notarize and commission documents for members of the public and support the functions of a busy and growing paralegal practice. We have a heavy case load, and the successful candidate will be expected to manage client expectations and maintain our high-quality customer service standards.
The successful candidate will be expected to work in-person, primarily at our Hamilton office location, with the ability to travel to our St. Catharines or Waterloo offices from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1+ year of experience preferred, but not required
  • P1 Licence in good standing with the LSO
  • Notary Public Designation (or the ability to ability to acquire designation by start date)
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to draft pleadings and legal documents
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently and on a team
  • Oral communication skills
  • Basic computer skills are required, including familiarity with email applications, PDF editors, Docusign and Microsoft Office
  • Strong understanding of ethical obligations and unwavering integrity
Responsibilities
  • Conduct research, draft and review legal documents to support proceedings.
  • Investigate facts to help in the navigation of legal disputes.
  • Answer phones and conduct consultations with prospective clients.
  • Take accountability for the management of client legal files.
  • Work primarily in the areas of Landlord/Tenant and Small Claims Court.
  • Cultivate relationships with clients and other professionals.
  • Ensure proper record-keeping and file management practices.
  • Notarize and commission a variety of documents while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Attend hearings, court appearances, and client meetings both virtually and in-person.
  • Review and revise the work of other licensees to support the growth and development of our team.
  • Light cleaning as needed to keep your workspace tidy.
  • Work collaboratively with other employees in a team environment and support other team members in their respective roles.
  • Adherence to all policies and procedures, as well as compliance with all professional requirements as set out by the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Administrative and compliance-related duties as required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned in the operation of our firm or the provision of legal services to our clients.
