This role supports the Bureau of Indian Education’s mission to ensure that Native students receive high-quality, culturally responsive special education and related services in their local school setting. You’ll provide direct and consultative school-based physical therapy for students with motor, functional, or mobility challenges, collaborating with teachers, parents, and interdisciplinary IEP teams. Key Responsibilities Deliver individualized and small-group physical therapy services as outlined in students’ IEPs. Assess, document, and report on students’ physical and functional abilities using standardized tools. Develop and implement therapy treatment plans to improve motor skills, posture, balance, and mobility. Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to adapt classroom activities and environments. Participate in IEP meetings, progress reviews, and team consultations. Maintain accurate and timely documentation per BIE and IDEA standards. Provide training and recommendations to teachers, aides, and families for carryover activities. Comply with all background check requirements under the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act. Follow all safety, confidentiality, and professional conduct policies of the school and contracting agency. Qualifications ✅ Required: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or Master’s in Physical Therapy. Active New Mexico Physical Therapy License (required before start date). Minimum of 2 years of pediatric or school-based experience. Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills. Ability to pass federal and state background checks. ✅ Preferred: Experience working with Native or Tribal communities. Knowledge of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) compliance requirements. Prior experience in federal or public school environments.
