Description

Providence Centre is a licensed supportive living and accredited long-term care facility. It was built in 1965 by the Sisters of Providence and is primarily the home of the Sisters. Providence Centre sits on a 25-acre property with beautiful grounds, a chapel, and an oratory to the Mary Mother of Sorrows. Dietary, housekeeping, linen and maintenance services are provided in-house. Providence Centre is committed to meeting the needs of tomorrow, with vision, united in strength and in belief that “Providence will rise before the sun”.
Providence Centre is looking for a Casual Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to deliver nursing care to our residents. Successful candidate will be reporting to the Nursing Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possess a Licensed Practical Nursing certificate from an accredited educational institution
  • Possess a current registration in good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses
  • 1 year of experience in a continuing care facility or other health care related facility is preferred
  • Training in WHMIS and first aid, and mask fitting is an asset
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Have clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check
  • Immunization Records
  • Tuberculosis Test

Responsibilities
  • Provide resident and family centered care utilizing the nursing process consisting of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Ensure the practice of nursing is conducted in accordance with the code of ethics as stipulated by College of Licensed Practical Nurses
  • Adhere to nursing and unit policies and procedures as outlined by the Providence Centre
  • Promote residents’ participation, choice and control in meeting own health care needs
  • Identify and communicate ethical issues and practice issues to the RN or nursing manager
  • Complete Unusual Incident Report in timely manner
  • Supervise health care aides (HCAs) working during their shift
  • Delegate restricted activities to HCAs as required
  • Supervise the tasks of the HCAs on shift
  • Assess residents’ needs on admission and on ongoing basis
  • Assess residents’ health status, awareness of health issues, and expectations of care on ongoing basis
  • Initiate, implement, and update care plan in consultation with team members
  • Administer medication in safe and responsible manner and observe and document therapeutic effects
  • Provide safe and effective delivery of nursing treatments and therapeutic interventions
  • Document timely, accurate reports of data collection, interpretation, planning, implementing and evaluating care in accordance with the Providence Centre policy, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in resident care conferences & interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Participate in providing home-like environment & encourage residents to create their own.
  • Communicate relevant information about residents, and/or friends and family to the registered nurse or nursing manager
  • Assist residents at mealtime as required & monitor nutrition and hydration
  • Assist residents with physical requirements and activities of daily living
