Job Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides high-quality, compassionate nursing care to patients receiving surgical and clinical services at Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio (PPSWO). This role supports patients throughout their care experience—from intake and procedure support through recovery and discharge ensuing care is delivered safely, respectfully, and in alignment with PPSWO protocols, clinical standards, and patient-centered values. The LPN plays a critical role in patient education, recovery room care, emergency response, and clinic operations while contributing to a welcoming, trauma-informed healthcare environment. Essential Functions Clinical & Patient Care Prepare recovery rooms each clinic day, including stocking supplies, performing narcotic counts, and preparing medications. Provide patient education prior to elective abortion, including pregnancy options counseling, informed consent, contraceptive education, and review of medical history and contraindications. Admit, assess, monitor, and safely discharge patients in the recovery room, identifying potential complications and consulting physicians as needed. Provide follow-up care throughout the clinic day, including nurse calls, post-procedure scheduling, ectopic precautions, referrals, and coordination of care plans. Educate patients on selected contraception methods and provide supportive, non-judgmental guidance. Medication Administration & Documentation Administer medications and/or call prescriptions into pharmacies as ordered by physicians or per standing orders, ensuring accurate documentation. Maintain thorough, timely documentation in the electronic medical record, logs, and incident reports as required. Surgical & Emergency Support Perform Surgical Assistant duties as needed, including lab testing, instrument preparation, assisting physicians, and supporting patients during exams and procedures. Respond effectively to medical emergencies, following PPSWO protocols and scope of practice. Team Collaboration & Clinic Operations Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and clinical team to develop daily patient care plans and support efficient clinic flow. Fully participate in clinical efforts related to patient care quality, customer service, productivity, and teamwork. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Maintain an active Ohio LPN license and practice in good standing in accordance with the Ohio Board of Nursing’s Standards of Safe Nursing Practice and the scope of practice defined in Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 4723-4. IV therapy training and certification. Demonstrated ability to manage medical emergencies and respond calmly under pressure. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment. Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends. Ability to travel between PPSWO health centers or ambulatory surgical facilities as needed. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and appropriate insurance. Preferred Qualifications Experience in OB/GYN, recovery room, emergency room, or surgical settings. ACLS certification. Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred. Experience working in nonprofit or community-based healthcare settings. Knowledge of contraceptive technology and patient education techniques. Experience using crisis intervention, interviewing, and patient education skills. Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds and perform routine physical activities (standing, walking, bending, reaching). Ability to work in a healthcare setting with potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids, cleaning chemicals, odors, and hazardous materials. Ability to travel to PPSWO sites and meetings as required.
