Calgary Skin Cancer Centre (CSCC) is a Non-Hospital Surgical Facility (NHSF) dedicated to providing exceptional and comprehensive medical and surgical care, using a team-oriented approach. Our facility is unique to Calgary in that our sole focus is Cutaneous Oncology: the detection, diagnosis, and surgical management of skin cancer, as well as rare cutaneous and soft-tissue malignancies.
We are looking for a highly skilled and energetic Licensed Practical Nurse with surgical/procedure experience, who shares our focus on providing the highest standard of patient care!

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures for surgical assisting, use of surgical equipment and surgical instruments
· Understanding of Universal Precautions
· Knowledge of, and ability to use, computers and EMR (experience with MedAccess not required but an asset)
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking is essential
· Ability to be self-motivated and self-directed with good time-management skills and the capability to appropriately prioritize duties
· Exhibits good interpersonal and organizational skills
· Demonstrates accountability, strong work ethic and attention to detail
· Good problem solving and decision-making abilities
· Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other team members
· Good reliability in attendance and work performance/record
· Adheres to all Policies and Procedures set out by Calgary Skin Cancer Centre
· Maintains a professional, well-kept appearance, according to CSCC Policy

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

· Proof of education and training certifications and maintenance of your Nursing certification and continuing competency (CLPNA)
· AORTA approved Peri-operative program certification, or equivalent training and experience, is not required but is an asset
· Operating Room experience is not required, but is an asset
· Current BLS certificate required

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Performing patient admission, peri-operative preparation and completing appropriate documentation
· Ensuring the operating room is clean and ready for use according to policy and procedures
· Understands and is familiar with aseptic techniques including: sterile surgical preparation, sterile tray set-up, and maintenance of the sterile surgical field during surgery
· Preparing the instruments and equipment needed for the surgery
· Checking all equipment needed during the procedure to verify availability, sterility, and normal/safe function
· Assisting the surgeon during surgery
· Discharging surgical patients by providing post-operative instructions including wound care
· Completing all documentation in the MedAccess Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
· Communicating effectively within the nursing team to ensure a cohesive team environment and to optimize patient care
· Performing other duties as requested by management and supervisory team
