Description Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to perform practical nursing duties in the care of adult and/or pediatric medical, surgical, and obstetrical patients. Position responsibilities: Participates in the assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating of nursing care. Participates in the implementation of the medical treatment plan. Records and reports all observed symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in the patient’s condition to the Registered Nurse. Assists with screening, admitting, transferring and discharging patients. Prepares and administers medications. Responds appropriately to emergency situations. Operates and monitors general nursing equipment such as sphygmomanometers and electronic thermometers. Operates and monitors specialized equipment for which the incumbent has been trained. Participates in in-service, continuing education, and nursing meetings. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Essential skills and experience: Successfully completing LPN program from accredited facility. Must have and maintain LPN license in good standing. Knowledge of human body structure, function, illnesses, and/or disease entities and skill sufficient to communicate with nurses, patients, family members and clinical staff. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge and skill sufficient to observe and reliably report the physical and emotional changes for inclusion in the patient’s care plan. Knowledge and skill sufficient to prepare dosages, and administer and recognize contraindications of prescribed medications. Knowledge and skill sufficient to respond to emergency situations such as cardiopulmonary arrest. Valued but not required skills and experience: Three to Five years of nursing experience. There is common exposure to contagious and infectious diseases. The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and emotionally disturbed patients, families and visitors. Indian preference applies.
