POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)–Orthopaedic Technician to join our high functioning and supportive Emergency Team at Penticton Regional Hospital. We are looking for someone who brings effective problem solving skills, is highly motivated, and can work well in a team environment.
Our Emergency Department receives 36,000+ patient visits per year, operates 24/7 and has 13 stretchers and 14 chairs for treating patients. The staffing complement consists of a Patient Care Coordinator, RNs, a LPN, and Unit Clerk. The LPN works 12-hour shifts where schedule is 11:00 to 23:00 hours.
Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) is a referral centre for three community hospitals and one diagnostic centre in the South Okanagan. We have an operating capacity of 129 acute beds and 102 extended care beds and offer a full range of services.
The LPN- Orthopaedic Technician performs assessments, plans, implements and provides nursing care to patients in an Ambulatory Care setting. This position operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP), and according to organizational policies, procedures, standards and unit specific protocols. Under the direction and supervision of a physician/nurse practitioner (NP) this position also provides orthopaedic care by performing duties such as assessing and evaluating patient condition; reviewing x-rays to confirm plan of care; applying casts and splints; removing externally exposed pins, wires, staples and sutures; setting up traction equipment and performs related orthopaedic duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) required.
  • Graduation from a BCCNP recognized practical nursing education program.
  • Completion of formal post-basic education in Orthopaedics (i.e. Orthopaedics Technician)
