Elk Island Public Schools is recruiting a temporary part-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Westboro Elementary. This position would be caring for a student with a potentially life threatening condition. There could be the possibility of redeployment within the school on days when the student does not attend.
Westboro Elementary serves approximately 245 students in kindergarten to Grade 6, with 18 teaching staff and 16 support staff. The school is located in Sherwood Park, AB.

Westboro Elementary is an educational community where people work collaboratively to develop their own, as well as each other’s potential. The school believes forging a partnership with the home is essential to maximizing student development intellectually, emotionally, socially, creatively and physically.

  • Commencing September 11, 2025
  • Ending June 22, 2026
  • 9.75 hours per week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 3.25 hours per day)
  • Open to internal and external candidates

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-secondary education from an approved nursing education program with College of Licensed Practical Nurse of Alberta registration
  • Minimum of three years of directly applicable experience or equivalent

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTITUDES:

  • Knowledge of ambulation aids; normal anatomy and physiology; deviations in anatomy and physiology due to developmental delays, illnesses and medical conditions
  • Knowledge of how deviations in normal development affect behavioral, emotional and mental health (i.e. Downs Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy).
  • Knowledge of instructional, training and coaching techniques
  • Knowledge of Freedom of information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) legislation, principles and practices
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and awareness of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
  • Understanding of district and departments operations and business; school systems and structures, community services for children and families,
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to understand non-verbal communication and behaviors
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical clients
  • Strong needs assessment and analytical skills
  • Good leadership skills and the ability to train, coach and mentor Educational Assistants
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make quick decisions
  • Flexible with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of students with varied needs
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate with inter-disciplinary teams
  • Willing and able to keep information about clients confidential
  • Ability to use tact and judgement in dealing with difficult situations
  • Responsible to provide proof of active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLP NA) and to maintain registration throughout the duration of employment
