Description
Experience working with an acute and chronic adult inpatient population is required, and forensic population. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  Responsible for patient care that includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.  Serves as medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.  Completes admission medical assessments (including history and physical examinations, mental status examination) and entering admission orders.  Orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.  Monitors patients' progress, including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.  Consults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.  Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioner if needed providing DSM-5 Diagnoses that are valid, complete, and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.  Provides coverage to the medical clinic, the admission suit to ensure the admission process is completed.  Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices. Assesses and address medication side-effects and report adverse drug reactions.  Ensures timely and quality documentation (admissions, follow-up and annual, etc.) in patient records in accordance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines. • Available to start immediately (pending credentialing) • Initial Appointment for 3-month assignment, with option to extend 3 -6-month assignment, if the position remains unfilled • Full-time, 40 hours a week with assigned office hours of Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm with 1 hour lunch break, no alternative schedules accepted • NOT approved for overtime • No weekends, no holidays, no on-call duty • Ability to provide cross coverage, to include forensic populations, as required • Once a month, participation in Lunch Coverage Call (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM)
Responsibilities
The Licensed Psychiatrist is responsible for the examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of medical illnesses for the adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population. They also serve as a medical consultant and ensure timely and quality documentation in patient records.
