Description POSITION SUMMARY: Supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Build members and the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact. This position maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. While exemplifying the Y’s commitment to the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and responds to all members and community inquiries in a timely manner. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area by continuously scanning the pool area from side to side. Regularly walking around the pool area to check blind spots, steam room, and sauna. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six model” (Prevent, Recognize, Activate EAP, Rescue, Care, Report). Completes related reports as required. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and for the duration of the shift Attend all staff meetings and in-service training. Fulfills any other functions designated by the YMCA Administration. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum age 16. Maintain a certification level of physical and mental readiness. Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA/ARC standards. Certifications: CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions by continuously scanning the pool area, checking blind spots, and responding immediately to emergencies according to established procedures. The role also involves building positive relationships with members and ensuring a safe, engaging atmosphere in accordance with YMCA policies.
