(Interviews are expected to begin in late February and continue into mid‑March) DEPARTMENT: Serengeti Springs Waterpark REPORTS TO: Aquatics Coordinator, a division of Hattiesburg Zoo Guest Services and Retail Department LOCATION: Primarily - Serengeti Springs at the Hattiesburg Zoo. Secondarily - the Fusion Fortress which includes nine water slides of varying heights, some straight and several with twists and turns, including the “Serengeti Swirl” bowl slide. In addition, this area will include multiple water-play areas, water engagement apparatus on the steps and decks and two bucket dump stations. This position also serves the Lazy River, a swimming and tubing river with a connect pool and swim-up food and beverage station. SHIFT: Serengeti Springs Waterpark will operate seven (7) days per week from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Seasonal Full-Time - Generally 40 hours per week on an alternating schedule of weekdays and weekends, with occasional nights, holidays and special events as required. Seasonal Part-Time - Varied weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays may be required. Maximum of 29 hours per week. SUMMARY: Working as a life guard and slide attendant at Serengeti Springs Waterpark is a great way to spend your summer at a fun, vibrant, exciting attraction that everyone is talking about. Whether you’re scanning the waters of the Lazy River or assisting guests on slides, you will be our front line for guest water safety and fun. Lifeguards and Slide Attendants protect and assist guests in times of need as well as guiding the shared enjoyment of the entire waterpark. You will communicate with guests regarding safety issues for all areas and ensure smooth safe operations each day of your schedule. You will be working in an outdoor environment with your teammates sharing in the responsibilities of the department. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Work within a team environment. * Oversee and operate all water attractions independently and in a team. * Assist guests on and off the attractions. * Provide safety guidance to guests. * Politely enforce safe operational practices. * Perform rescues and utilize lifesaving techniques when required. * Follow all delegated tasks assigned by supervisors or as stated in the Standard Operating Procedures and the Star Guard Elite Lifeguard training. * Willfully perform duties in any Guest Services Department operations at Serengeti Springs. * Maintain a clean and safe environment for guests and team members. * Other duties as needed or assigned REQUIREMENTS * Attend and complete a Lifeguard Training Course hosted by Serengeti Springs for your Star Guard Elite lifeguard license (company paid expense). * Attend all related in-service training sessions as required. * May be required to stand for long periods of time. * May be required to lift at least 20-50 lbs. * Will be exposed to direct sunlight, hot temperatures, or rain. * Must be able to multi-task and be flexible in a fast-paced environment. * Must be able to work well with others. * Must be able to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

Ensure guest safety by monitoring water attractions, including the Lazy River and water slides, and performing rescues when necessary. Communicate safety guidelines to guests and maintain a clean, safe environment within the waterpark.
