ABOUT THE ROLE: As a Lifeguard at AbilityFirst, you will be pivotal in conducting and coordinating water-based programs and activities. Your role will ensure a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable swimming experience for all our participants. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Perform patron surveillance, rescues, and care as per lifeguard and first aid training. Provide lifeguarding and instruction for external participants in aquatic classes. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of current programs, suggesting improvements. Maintain accurate attendance sheets, health, safety records, and participant files. Participate in developing aquatic goals and programming, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all. Ensure pool chemical levels are maintained, and equipment is safely stored and maintained. Actively participate in staff meetings, in-service trainings, and special events. Uphold our commitment as a Mandated Reporter, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants Other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the program and organization. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS A High School diploma or equivalent is required. 1-2 years of experience of strong office management skills is preferred. 1-2 years of experience leading lifeguard trainings and aquatic classes is required. A valid American Red Cross Community First Aid, Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and other relevant certifications is required. The ability to obtain an American Red Cross certification within a month of being hired is required. Ability to support and move swimmers of varying sizes and abilities is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills is preferred. A problem-solver who handles emergencies effectively and has excellent organizational skills. Ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment is required. A valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record is required. Successful completion of background (LiveScan) check is required. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Changes in the environment, such as the office or outdoors. Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary- up to 15-20 pounds at times.
