Job Description We are seeking a vigilant and responsible lifeguard to join our team at the HIWA recreation center pool. HIWA Recreation Centre is a vibrant, high-use aquatic facility within the University of Auckland, serving a diverse community of students, staff, athletes, and the wider public. We pride ourselves on maintaining a safe, professional, and welcoming environment, supported by a strong and collaborative lifeguard team. This role offers more than routine pool supervision. You’ll work alongside experienced staff in a well-run facility that values professionalism, ongoing development, and positive team culture. We are looking for a full time staff member to work the following shift pattern: Sunday 10:30am- 6:30pm, Monday 5:30am-1:30pm, Tues- Thurs 1:30pm- 9:30pm Prevent incidents and respond quickly to emergencies Respond to emergencies and provide first aid or CPR when necessary Educate around safety rules and regulations Educate visitors about potential hazards and safe swimming practices Maintain rescue equipment and ensure it is readily available Collaborate with other lifeguards and emergency services when required Complete accurate incident reports and maintain daily logs Assist in keeping the poolside area clean. Participate in regular training sessions to maintain and improve skills Qualifications Current lifeguard certification preferred but not essential First Aid certificated preferred Excellent swimming abilities and physical fitness Effective communication skills to interact with the public and team members Quick decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations Previous lifeguarding experience preferred Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays Commitment to ongoing professional development in water safety and rescue techniques Additional Information Equity The University is committed to meeting its obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi and achieving equity outcomes for staff and students in a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment.
