The Lifeguard will report to the Aquatics Supervisor and work collaboratively with other members of the YMCA team to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment. Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will: * Guarding the pool in a positive and professional manner * Enforce pool rules and safety regulations * Perform water rescues and administer first aid or CPR when necessary * Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues * Perform routine pool maintenance, as required * Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities * Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property, by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained among all members and staff * Promote philanthropy through the annual fundraiser campaign * Strong work ethic and able to remain flexible * Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices * Attend staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required Qualification-you bring: * Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years) * CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year) * National Lifeguard - Pool Option * Experience as a Lifeguard preferred * Swim Instructor or YSI certification preferred * YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferred * High-school, must have completed Grad 10. Must be at least 16 years of age * Advanced leadership courses are an asset * Demonstrated high level of customer service skills * Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references * Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
