Description Job Title: Lifeguard Status of Employment: Part-Time/Seasonal/Hourly Supervision of Employment: Aquatics Director General Statement of Duties: Lifeguards are required to receive certifications in CPR, First Aid, and oxygen delivery from Jeff Ellis Associates. They will be responsible for the safety of patrons, providing accurate care, paperwork required in accident/incident, giving verbal directions, enforcing and following rules along with other assigned tasks. Distinguishing Features of the Position: Be able to demonstrate lifeguarding skills at any given time and be able to react in a moment notice to emergency situations. Enforce policies for the public, and rules of the pool. Be able to work under stressful conditions and follow through with emergency plan action, when necessary. Be able to attend weekly staff meetings. Be able to stand, sit or walk in the sun for varying time durations. Maintain good physical conditioning in order to maintain lifeguarding skills. The position requires schedule flexibility to accommodate for evening and weekend responsibilities. Qualifications and Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the job requires excellent swimming skills. CPR, First Aid and lifeguard certifications. Must know lifeguarding techniques with the Jeff Ellis program and implement them. Will be required to participate in house audits and audits conducted by Jeff Ellis. Attend weekly staff meetings. Must be 16 years or older. Cognitive Considerations: Ability to comprehend written materials. Ability to understand verbal instructions. Ability to reason, weigh the facts and make a proper judgment; proficient decision-making skills. Safety Employees are responsible for understanding the importance of safety issues, rules, policies, and to comply with all rules and policies. Job would require exposure to a wide range of weather and environmental conditions. Report on safety conditions and make safety recommendations. Work to achieve goals and objectives of the Safety Committee of Zion Park District. Requirements Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities: Report to work on time, dressed in uniform and ready to work. Physically demonstrate training skills required by the Jeff Ellis program. Answer publics’ questions in person and on the phone when necessary. Attend staff training before the opening season and attend weekly staff meetings. Maintain the facility by doing maintenance work when necessary. Effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with the Aquatics Director, headguard, other staff and public (daily). Give appropriate and positive directions to participants. Inform the Supervisor of any problems with the public that arise and do preventative guarding. Punch in and out on Payroll System. Be responsible for finding a substitute for shift. Responsible for understanding the importance of safety issues at the district, for adhering to the District Safety Manual and associated policies and working to achieve the goals of the safety committee. Assist with keeping the pool facility clean and safe. React to weather condition changes and inform the Supervisor immediately to make sure participants are safe. Follow all safety procedures that are required at the pool facility. Functions in a flexible manner to adjust to the daily schedule or assist where needed.
Responsibilities
Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons at the pool, enforcing rules, and responding to emergencies. They must also maintain the facility and communicate effectively with staff and the public.
