What we’re looking for: We are seeking a Lift Engineer with 2–3 years’ experience to join our Engineering team. This opportunity is suited to a driven and capable professional looking to further develop their technical expertise within a dynamic, operationally focused environment. In this role, you will partner closely with operational teams to support informed, practical decision-making, balancing safety, technical integrity, and commercial outcomes. You will contribute to the planning and execution of lifting activities, ensuring solutions are fit-for-purpose, compliant, and aligned with both project and client requirements. What you’ll bring to the team: You’re a technically capable and motivated engineer with a strong foundation and a practical, solutions-focused mindset. You bring a balance of engineering rigour and operational awareness, with the ability to contribute meaningfully in a fast-paced environment. Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with a strong foundation in engineering analysis and design Exposure to crane and rigging, or related mining, heavy civil, or mechanical environments, with an understanding of operational delivery Foundational experience in lift planning, engineering calculations, and practical problem-solving Strong risk awareness with a commitment to safe, compliant, and fit-for-purpose engineering outcomes Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage across operations and stakeholders Proactive and accountable approach, with the ability to manage priorities and deliver outcomes Adaptable mindset with a willingness to learn and develop in a dynamic environment What you’ll be doing: You’ll play a key role in supporting safe, efficient, and commercially sound lifting operations, working closely with both engineering and operations teams. This role combines technical delivery with practical application, ensuring solutions are fit-for-purpose and aligned to real-world execution. Contribute to lift studies, transport drawings, method statements, and crane comparisons aligned to project requirements Prepare and maintain engineering calculation spreadsheets to support lift planning and technical decision-making Develop and maintain dynamic 3D models for cranes and rigging to support design and visualisation Provide technical input into incident investigations, including analysis and practical recommendations Review and optimise lift designs and methodologies based on equipment, site conditions, and constraints Support crane selection and configuration, providing recommendations to inform capital decisions Collaborate with operations to ensure engineering solutions are practical and executable Drive continuous improvement through enhancements to engineering processes, tools, and standards Why You’ll Love Working with Us: At Freo, we believe in Doing Things That Matter, Leading at Every Level and Winning a Better Way. Responsibilities
The engineer will support safe, efficient, and commercially sound lifting operations by contributing to lift studies, preparing engineering calculations, and developing dynamic 3D models for cranes and rigging.
