Description

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and knowledgeable lighting technician to join our team. As a lighting technician, you will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of lighting equipment for various events, performances, or productions. Your expertise in lighting design, electrical systems, and lighting control consoles will play a vital role in creating visually stunning and effective lighting experiences. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with lighting designers, directors, and production teams to understand the artistic vision and lighting requirements of a production or event.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of lighting plans, including fixture placement, color schemes, and lighting effects.
  • Install and rig lighting fixtures, cables, and equipment, ensuring proper placement, alignment, and safety.
  • Set up and program lighting control consoles, dimmers, and other lighting control systems.
  • Test and troubleshoot lighting equipment to ensure proper functionality and address any technical issues promptly.
  • Operate lighting consoles during rehearsals and performances, executing lighting cues and adjustments as directed.
  • Focus and adjust lighting fixtures to achieve desired effects and ensure proper coverage of the performance area.
  • Collaborate with other technical teams, such as sound and set designers, to coordinate lighting cues with audio and visual elements.
  • Assist in the maintenance, repair, and cleaning of lighting equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest lighting technologies, equipment, and industry trends to enhance the quality and efficiency of lighting setups.
  • Follow safety protocols and adhere to occupational health and safety regulations to create a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Maintain accurate records of lighting plots, cue sheets, equipment inventory, and maintenance schedules.
  • Communicate and coordinate with venue staff, electricians, and other production crew members to ensure smooth and efficient lighting operations.
  • Provide training and guidance to less experienced lighting technicians or crew members, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a lighting technician in live events, theater, concerts, or other related productions.
  • Strong knowledge of lighting equipment, fixtures, control systems, and electrical principles.
  • Proficiency in programming lighting control consoles, such as GrandMA, ETC, or Avolites.
  • Familiarity with lighting design principles, color theory, and lighting terminology.
  • Understanding of different lighting fixtures, their functionalities, and appropriate applications.
  • Experience with rigging and hanging lighting fixtures, as well as working at heights using appropriate safety measures.
  • Ability to read and interpret lighting plots, technical drawings, and cue sheets.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and effectively.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to handle and move lighting equipment, work in various positions, and lift heavy objects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues and communicate effectively with other production team members.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on production schedules.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in the entertainment industry.
  • Degree or certification in technical theater, lighting design, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
