We are looking for a motivated and caring English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor to prepare curriculum materials and deliver ESL instruction under the LINC Program. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and TESL Canada recognized certificate or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • One to two years’ experience in ESL instruction including settlement and/or community based English skills;
  • CLB Bootcamp certificate or equivalent training is required
  • Completion of Orientation to the ESL for Adult Literacy Learners offered through the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks is considered an asset https://learning.language.ca/
  • Knowledge of the CLBs and PBLA
  • Experience developing curriculum materials and instructing ESL to adults;
  • Experience in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Working knowledge of language programming issues for adults;
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite, publishing software, databases, Internet browsers, web search engines, slide shows, and MOODLE teaching applications.

Responsibilities
  • Create and sustain a safe and positive learning environment
  • Integrate new students as they join the class in a way that is welcoming
  • Use the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBs) to inform planning
  • Identify achievable learning objectives relevant to students
  • Apply the principles of communicative and task-based lesson planning
  • Use current and appropriate media technology (e.g., MOODLE, Smart Board, Computer Lab) as a tool to support students’ language learning and/or real-life skills (e.g., computer literacy, writing an email, reading a website)
  • Identify when a learner needs assistance and respond appropriately by making adaptation within the curriculum and the classroom. Refer students to appropriate internal or external resources in response to students’ needs
  • Use a variety of assessment tools and techniques appropriate for ongoing formative assessment in relation to the CLB descriptors for the four skill areas. Follow Language and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) protocol in designing, delivering, recording, and reporting assessments as applicable
  • Manage students in the online MOODLE course and ensure students fully access the online course through training materials and peer mentoring
  • Maintain student attendance records, and forward a monthly report to the appropriate staff person
  • Supervise classroom volunteers or classroom assistants
  • Keep the Manager and Instructional Developer regularly informed on participant progressand achievement of outcomes
