Description
ING Australia are on a hunt for an experienced Line 1 Risk Manager to join our Daily Banking Tribe to support our Retail Bank. As Risk Manager – Daily Banking, you’ll be the go-to expert for keeping ING’s everyday banking products safe, compliant, and customer-focused. This isn’t just about ticking boxes – you’ll embed risk thinking into the heart of our agile Tribes, working across Daily Banking, Digital, and Customer Interaction teams. From spotting operational risks in product lifecycles to designing smart controls and part of project deliveries, you’ll make sure we stay ahead of regulatory obligations while delivering great customer outcomes. You’ll lead risk reviews, regulatory changes, and partner with stakeholders to uplift risk maturity across the business. Think of it as a hands-on role where you’ll balance customer, risk, compliance and business with innovation, influence decisions at all levels, and help shape the future of banking – all while thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Our ideal candidate is a hands-on risk professional with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for making banking safer and smarter. You’ll bring at least three years’ experience in risk or product-related roles, ideally within retail banking, and a solid understanding of Australia’s regulatory landscape – think ASIC, APRA, AFCA. You know the first line of defence inside out and can design, test, and uplift controls with confidence. Agile ways of working aren’t new to you; you thrive in fast-paced environments and can juggle multiple priorities without breaking a sweat. You’re a natural communicator who can influence stakeholders at all levels, negotiate solutions, and turn complex problems into practical outcomes. Above all, you’re curious, proactive, and obsessed with delivering positive customer experiences while keeping risk firmly in check. Ready to make an impact? What you’ll do Embed risk thinking into agile squads across Daily Banking, Digital, and Customer Interaction Tribes, ensuring compliance and strong risk culture. Identify and assess operational risks in product lifecycles, design and implement effective controls, and uplift the risk control framework. Be the risk lead in projects and change initiatives, delivering risk assessments, stakeholder engagements and ensuring safe delivery. Partner with stakeholders and 2nd line teams to ensure regulatory obligations are met and processes align with group standards. Drive continuous improvement by reviewing end-to-end processes, identifying gaps, and contributing to projects that enhance risk maturity. Provide expert advice and reporting, chair risk meetings, and influence decisions to keep products operating safely within risk appetite. What we’re looking for Proven experience in line 1 risk management (minimum 3 years), ideally within retail banking or financial services. Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance obligations in Australia (ASIC, APRA, AFCA). Hands-on knowledge of the first line of defence, including designing, testing, and implementing effective controls and risk in change risk assessments. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels. Analytical and problem-solving mindset, capable of turning complex issues into practical, customer-focused solutions. Agile and adaptable, thriving in fast-paced environments and comfortable working across multiple business units. What’s in it for you?
