Role Overview
You will support the Line Manager in overseeing the operational and commercial performance of the shipping lines, with a focus on daily operations, schedule adherence, vessel utilization, and trade policy execution. A key part of the role is driving and supporting the agency network to optimize commercial performance and meet sales targets for the New Zealand–Asia import trade. You will also lead the setup and implementation of the trade policy in collaboration with the Line Manager and trade team, while providing analytical support for key financial reports, including P&L, RFF, and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
Assist Line Manager in monthly financial forecasting and analysis with Business Control, Operations, and Trade teams.
Prepare and manage financial statements (P&L, Flash, Budget) and coordinate budget planning and execution for Southbound (SB) Trade.
Support strategic initiatives including new service launches, vessel newbuilding/chartering decisions, and terminal investment analysis.
Define budget targets (volume/revenue) and set Trade SB objectives (cargo mix, fixed/floating ratios) to align with Line strategy.
Support the Line Manager by recommending proactive corrective actions and contingency plans for daily operational decisions (e.g., rotation changes, vessel acceleration, port omissions).
Participate in business development, identifying opportunities, negotiating contracts, and advising the Line Manager on their impact and necessary adjustments.
Manage Trade SB yield, vessel optimization, filling factor, and customer portfolio management.
Develop and implement export trade policy and commercial guidelines across Sales teams and local agencies to meet sales targets.
Monitor line performance (bookings, liftings, revenues) per sailing to maximize yield and vessel utilization.
Build and maintain strong communication, trust, and collaboration with ocean partners; support the Line Manager in operational discussions to protect ANL interests following JSA procedures (backup contact).
Develop and nurture relationships with key ANL customers, service providers, and senior management across international shipping companies.
Collaborate with the Line Manager to manage competitor intelligence and develop action plans to strengthen ANL’s maritime products.
Identify potential market threats and design strategies to protect ANL’s market share and pricing.
Collaborate with the Line Manager to establish KPIs for functional units and regularly review trade NB performance against plans and budgets, taking action as needed.
