They perform cooking, cleaning, delivery, and other support duties as instructed by the chef de partie. Commis chefs help ensure that a kitchen’s operations run smoothly.
You will assist the chef de partie with tasks related to meal preparation, maintenance, logistics, and safety and sanitation. Success in this role will be determined by your ability to support the kitchen’s efficiency and safety without compromising the quality of the meals produced.
The role is made up of many varying responsibilities including:
Requirement for Commis Chef:
· Minimum 1 year’s relevant experience.
· Awareness of manual handling techniques.
· Experience of kitchen equipment.
· Awareness of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations and chemical safety.
· Experience of dangerous equipment such as knives and other elements in kitchen.
· Understandable level of English spoken and written
General skills Commis Chef should possess:
· Knowledge and ability to run a section.
· Ability to work without close supervision.
· Good level of numeracy.
· Team management skills.
· Positive and approachable manner.
· High level of attention to detail.
· Ability to produce good quality food in all section’s Good oral communication.
· Team player qualities.
