JOB OVERVIEW

We are a small vegan restaurant located in the North end of Halifax. We are seeking a reliable and professional Line Cook/Prep Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year experience as a line cook in a commercial kitchen. This position requires working independently (once fully trained) as well as part of a team.
NOTE: We currently need someone who has full availability on weekends, as well as all day on Wednesdays.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Strong understanding of food safety practices and proper food handling procedures.
  • Positive attitude and strong communication skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently. (During certain hours of the day the line cook is the only one in the kitchen.)
  • Minimum of 1 year previous experience as a line cook in a commercial kitchen is required.
    Job Type: Part-time
    Pay: $17.00-$18.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 20 per week

Responsibilities
  • Memorize recipes, procedures, and standard portion sizes.
  • Set up and stock the line with food ingredients, utensils, and other necessary supplies.
  • Accurately produce food and drink to-order in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prepare sauces and ingredients for recipes, by chopping, shredding, weighing and blending.
  • Package and label meals and products for the retail market.
  • Prepare catering orders by following recipes and instructions.
  • Take direction from supervisors, work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to speak, write and easily understand English.
  • Perform inventory checks and order fresh produce.
  • Always follow food safety guidelines when handling, preparing, or storing food.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including daily completion of tasks from the Cleaning List.
  • Rinse dishes and use a commercial dishwasher.
  • Complete any other relevant tasks that may arise, as needed.
