About the Role: As a Linux Engineer in C4i Solutions, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, optimisation, and support of secure, high-availability Linux environments across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid infrastructures. You will ensure system reliability, performance, and security while contributing to automation and continuous improvement initiatives. The role is located onsite in Sydney, CBD. About the role: Install, configure, and sustain secure Linux server environments (RHEL, Ubuntu LTS, hardened distributions) within classified, restricted, and air-gapped Defence networks. Design and manage high-availability, fault-tolerant architectures supporting mission-critical Defence applications and Command & Control systems. Perform proactive system monitoring, performance optimisation, and capacity planning to meet operational readiness requirements. Troubleshoot and resolve complex OS, network, storage, and application-layer issues in secure environments. Develop automation using Bash and Python scripting and configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible) within controlled change environments. Manage virtualisation platforms (VMware ESXi, KVM) and containerised workloads (Docker, Kubernetes) where permitted under security constraints. Administer enterprise storage solutions (SAN, NAS, LVM) supporting high-availability Defence workloads. Execute controlled patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management in alignment with Defence change and release governance. Support backup, restoration, and disaster recovery capabilities aligned to continuity of operations requirements. Integrate systems with secure identity services (LDAP, Active Directory, PKI, multi-factor authentication). Harden Linux systems in accordance with the Australian Signals Directorate Information Security Manual (ISM) and Defence security policies. Implement and validate security controls aligned to Australian Department of Defence standards and relevant accreditation requirements. Apply STIGs, CIS benchmarks, and vulnerability remediation processes within classified environments. Support system logging, audit controls, and security monitoring integrations with Security Operations Centers (SOC). Contribute to security accreditation, audit readiness, and continuous assurance activities. Deploy and manage Linux workloads within Defence-approved cloud environments (e.g. protected or sovereign cloud platforms). Support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) approaches in secure delivery pipelines. Assist in migration of legacy workloads into hardened virtualised or cloud-hosted environments in line with Defence architecture standards. Support incident response activities and technical investigations where required. About you: Australian citizen (required for Defence projects) with a min AGSVA NV1 clearance. The ability to obtain a Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance is preferred. Experience working in complex Defence project settings. A BACH Degree (Relevant to the role) or significant experience. Industry certifications highly regarded. Familiar with ISM, DSPF, PSPF. Communicates clearly and confidently, both written and verbal. Is highly organised with strong attention to detail. Builds positive relationships and manages stakeholders effectively. Works well independently and takes initiative.
