Company: Qualcomm China Job Area: Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Software Engineering General Summary: About the Role We are seeking a highly motivated Linux Open Source Driver Developer to join our platform software team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in USB technology and hands‑on experience contributing to the Linux kernel open source community, while also being comfortable working across multiple kernel subsystems and device drivers. This role is not limited to USB development. You will work on a broad range of Linux kernel drivers and core subsystems, collaborating with upstream maintainers, internal platform teams, and product stakeholders to deliver high‑quality, upstream‑ready solutions. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, debug, and maintain Linux kernel device drivers, with a strong initial focus on USB host, gadget, and Type‑C related technologies. Actively contribute to the Linux kernel open source community, including: Submitting upstream patches Participating in code reviews and technical discussions Engaging with subsystem maintainers and mailing lists Develop and maintain drivers and kernel features across multiple subsystems, which may include (but are not limited to): USB (Host, Gadget, PHY, Type‑C, PD) Power management Interconnects and buses SoC‑specific peripherals Device Tree and platform integration Collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, and system software teams to ensure robust hardware‑software integration. Perform root‑cause analysis of complex kernel‑level issues using logs, traces, and debugging tools. Ensure code quality, maintainability, and long‑term upstream acceptance by following Linux kernel coding standards and best practices. Support downstream enablement and customer needs while keeping upstream alignment as a priority. Required Qualifications Strong proficiency in C programming for low‑level systems and kernel development. Solid understanding of Linux kernel architecture, driver model, and core subsystems. Strong background in USB technology, such as: USB 2.0 / 3.x fundamentals Host controller and gadget frameworks USB enumeration, descriptors, and transfer types USB Type‑C and Power Delivery (preferred) Proven experience working with the Linux kernel open source community, including: Upstream patch submission Mailing list based development workflow Familiarity with maintainer review processes Hands‑on experience with Git, patch management, and rebasing workflows. Experience working with Device Tree (DTS) and platform bring‑up. Strong debugging skills and the ability to analyze complex kernel‑level problems. Preferred Qualifications Prior upstream contributions to USB or other kernel subsystems. Experience with additional kernel areas such as: Power management (regulators, clocks, runtime PM) IOMMU, DMA, or interconnect frameworks Embedded SoC platforms Familiarity with kernel debugging tools (e.g., ftrace, perf, crash, KGDB). Experience supporting products from early bring‑up through customer release. Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross‑team and community collaboration. What We Value Passion for open source development and upstream‑first engineering. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a global team. Strong sense of ownership and accountability for code quality and long‑term maintainability. Willingness to learn and work across multiple kernel domains, not limited to a single subsystem. Why Join Us Opportunity to work on production‑grade Linux kernel code used by real products. Direct engagement with the Linux kernel open source community. Exposure to a wide range of hardware platforms and technologies beyond USB. A collaborative engineering culture that values technical excellence and upstream contribution. Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience. OR Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 5+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience. OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience. • 3+ years of work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc. Qualcomm is an equal opportunity employer.
