The Max Planck Computing and Data Facility (MPCDF) is a central facility of the Max Planck Society, located at the Garching Research Center near Munich. It focuses on the development and optimization of algorithms and applications for high-performance computing, as well as the design and implementation of solutions for data-intensive projects in close collaboration with scientists from the Max Planck Institutes. The MPCDF operates the Max Planck supercomputers, dedicated compute clusters, a cloud platform, and data repositories for various Max Planck Institutes, and maintains a state-of-the-art infrastructure for data management, including long-term archiving.

To strengthen its team, the MPCDF is looking for a new member.

The MPCDF infrastructure is based on a wide range of Identity Management (IDM) services, such as LDAP and Kerberos servers. To ensure the ongoing operation, further development, and improvement of these core services, the MPCDF is seeking qualified individuals to expand its team.

The ideal candidate should have a degree in an IT-related field and three years of professional experience. They should be familiar with the administration of modern Linux systems as well as the maintenance and further development of authentication services.

Required qualifications

  • Good knowledge of Linux system administration
  • Experience in low-level programming and scripting (Python, Bash)
  • Knowledge of IDM and AAI protocols (e.g. LDAP, Kerberos, OpenID Connect)
  • Knowledge in the field of automation (Ansible, GitLab, etc.)
  • Creativity in problem-solving under changing conditions
  • Ability to independently develop and implement concrete solutions
  • Good communication skills (in English and German)

The full-time position (part-time employment possible) starts as soon as possible and is initially limited to two years, with the possibility of subsequent permanent employment. Salary is based on qualifications and professional experience in accordance with the German Federal Public Service Collective Agreement (TVöD Bund).
